CHAPTER ELEVEN

Crispell

I’m still shaking from the encounter in Dom’s play room as I tug on my running shoes, making sure they’re tied nice and tight.

I still can’t believe he let me bind him to the chair—utter perfection. I never thought he’d go for the deal, really just suggested it on a lark. He was uncomfortable and straining against his bonds in a way that subs don’t. He needed to get loose, wasn’t just acting as most do to make the experience more fun. Yet, he trusted me enough to hand over all the power, the control. To me.

Then he had to go and ruin everything by saying that we’re going outside. Into the woods. Where there’s god knows what. I’ll be naked. Outside. By a lake. The idea is wicked, and suddenly appeals to me. Having sex out in the open is, well… sexy.

Dom doesn’t make me wait long outside, bursting through the front door. With damp hair curling around his ears and his fresh, scrubbed clean face I imagine he looks how the gods of Olympus did when they walked the Earth.

Gah, where did that sappy nonsense come from?

“Ready?” He grabs my hand and pulls me in for a quick kiss before we step off the porch and into the great unknown.

We walk in comfortable silence for a while, down a hardpacked dirt path. In several places large muddy puddles impede our progress, but otherwise, it’s mostly straight and easy going. Until I suddenly realize my lungs are bursting.

I stop for a moment to catch my breath. Being in such good shape, being out of breath is something I haven’t been in ages. I’m quickly learning that walking in the mountains is more strenuous than city walking.

Dom pauses with me, waiting patiently. He hasn’t even broken a sweat and I silently curse him.

There’s a flutter of wings above. Through a parting in the trees a couple of dark birds circle. Staring in openmouthed wonder, a little shudder goes through me. “Wow. Until now, I’ve only seen buzzards on the Nat Geo channel. They better not be waiting on me for their next meal.”

He looks up to follow my gaze and points at them. “Those, right there?”

I bite back a sarcastic, do you see any other birds? comment and opt for an easy, “Yes, those.”

He steps up behind me and puts his hands on my shoulders, rubbing them gently. “Sweetheart, those are crows.” Leaning in, he nuzzles my neck.

Oh. Duh.

Laughing at myself, I take a moment to look around.

Dappled sunlight marks the path in front of us while the trees raise their many arms skyward. There’s a colorful riot of wildflowers in a random place where they’ve had a chance to take hold. Birds singing and the fresh, clean scent surrounding us gives me the best kind of high—a natural one.

It’s all stunningly beautiful.

I open my arms and spin around like I’m Maria from The Sound of Music, up on her mountain.

“Now that I know those birds aren’t planning on eating me… Dom, this is amazing, stunning, beautiful.
